Living Lifestyle Freedom is all about teaching you to create time freedom, money freedom and freedom of choice in your business and life. As a mom of two I started my first business in 2002 to have complete time freedom to raise my kids.

I’ve made over $1.3 million in those years, hustled for years and had years where I worked 10 hours a week and I’ve taken most of the last 24 summers off to enjoy with my kids. I’ve never had to miss an important activity, event or sick day because I created the time freedom to do so. In this post I’ll share my best times on how you can do the same

This is my take…

So what is Time Freedom?

It’s the freedom to do what you want, when you want, where you want and with who you want. It’s total freedom over your day, your week, your year, your time.

How to Achieve Time Freedom

There are so many ways to create time freedom through an online business.

Here are my favorites:

Affiliate Marketing

What is affiliate marketing: Sales commissions for selling a digital or physical product.

How you do it: Sign up to get your link and start sharing it.

Don’t confuse this with network marketing or MLM.

The original affiliate marketing costs you nothing to sign up, does not require you to buy any products, doesn’t have a downline structure and doesn’t tie you to any one company.

As an affiliate you can sign up for as many companies as you like and earn anywhere from 5% to 50% or more of sales generated from your affiliate link. You can do this without a website (sell to your email list or on social) and even from your phone.

Digital Products & Courses

What is a digital product: Various forms of content packaged for someone to buy.

How to do it: Find potential buyers, create an offer and present it with a payment option.

You can sell PDFs, Audios, Videos or any combination of any type of media that you like. There is no limit here to the creativity you can put into selling a digital offer online. What matters most is: do people want it?

Coaching & Consulting

What is coaching: Typically one on one support.

How to do it: Develop a coaching process and sell it to clients.

This wouldn’t typically fall under the time freedom category if done in the traditional way coaching is done. But as a time freedom lover I developed a process I call “coaching without calls” because I still wanted the rewards of working with one on one clients WITHOUT the time commitments!

So I don’t do coaching calls. I don’t do discovery calls. I don’t do a single call at all when I coach high ticket coaching clients. That makes this method very much fit the time freedom model and if you get coaching clients on a monthly recurring coaching plan then it also provides amazing income stabilization.

Add group coaching as an option here as well. This includes turning a course into a group coaching program or running mastermind groups. You CAN include calls and still have time freedom – just make sure that it’s all on terms you like and best to start with shorter term to see how you like it.

Membership or Subscription Models

What is a membership or subscription: You charge a recurring payment for delivering something consistently.

How to do it: Create something people are willing to pay for monthly, quarterly or annually.

Be careful with this one! It absolutely CAN create time freedom but it can also be a total time TRAP where you spend all your time building and growing a membership that you HOPE will pay off some time in the future. Ask me how I know .

So… building a membership or subscription offer can take so many forms. Monthly digital downloads, monthly workshops, ongoing coaching community.

This type of model requires ongoing commitment so don’t decide lightly. Is this something you can do for the next 3-5 years and are you willing to wait while it builds up and gains momentum?

There are so many ways to build time freedom

As I said this is merely a sampling of potential online business models you could use to create the free time you want in your life and business.

Everything I’ve mentioned here takes work, effort and time. It’s not realistic to decide you’re going to do one and then expect to be free as a bird in a few months. They all work on different schedules and have different payoffs.

I worked for YEARS building a combination of the models above in order to then spend many years working 10 hour days and taking full summers off to spend with my kids. Then I had to get back to it, hustle again, adapt to industry changes and more. This isn’t a free ride. It’s hard work for awesome rewards. If you’re down for that keep reading as I have more advice and tips (hard won) on this…

Now let’s talk about something I missed for many years:

Time Freedom vs Financial Freedom

Time freedom and financial freedom are not the same. And of course everyone has different definitions on things.

Google’s AI says financial freedom is:
Financial freedom means having enough savings, investments, and cash flow to cover your lifestyle without being forced to work.

I really like that definition!

So you can have time freedom but NOT have financial freedom. I personally with I had aimed for both in the very beginning of starting my business (in 2002).

Since I didn’t, I’m starting now. I have to work. But there will come a time when I CHOOSE to work and I look forward to those days!

I’ll be writing more posts on this and how I’m building towards financial freedom so do stick around if you’d like to read them. You can sign up for my email list here.

In the meantime let’s talk about the tools you might need to create YOUR time freedom:

Tools for Time Freedom

This list is not an absolute. Don’t go and click and buy everything on this list without really thinking about the business you want to build and what you might need.

That said here are the tools I’ve been using for years and years to build my time freedom. Starting with the most essential tools at the top!

Email software

I use Kit and recommend this. There is a free starter plan but I do recommend you get the lowest price plan as soon as you get serious so you have email automations.

WordPress

My website/blog you are reading here is created in WordPress, which is free with almost all hosting plans. I use WPX for my hosting because it’s fast, affordable and the support is absolutely fantastic.

Shopping Cart (and more)

I’ve used ThriveCart since 2022 as my shopping cart and it’s been my favorite because it’s easy to use. You can also host courses, run an affiliate program and host a community on ThriveCart. It’s got everything I need to run my business in one place.

Documents & Spreadsheets

Google Drive is great for creating the documents and spreadsheets I include in my products, coaching and more. It’s easy to use and free. Works for me!

Images & Graphics

It’s a goal of mine to use my own images as much as possible. Graphics wise I create those in Canva.

Videos

I screen record or do talking head videos in Loom or Zoom. I host my videos on Loom and will embed them into ThriveCart for selling my courses and other offers.

Those are the main tools. Of course i can get into a huge list but I don’t think you need that right now if you’re just getting familiar. If you want to see my long list of recommended online business tools you can see that here: Recommended Tools for Online Businesses

Is Time Freedom Even Real?

Yes – it’s real. No it’s not easy. If it were everyone would have it.

Over the years as I would show up for places I would feel some guilt about how much freedom I had while others worked hard hours at jobs they hated on late nights and weekends.

Mostly the guilt was because I thought people didn’t know there was another way. But also I think some people really don’t believe it’s true.

So I’ve dropped the guilt and decided I will keep showing up to teach. Maybe you are one of those super hard working people who HEARD this is possible but not sure you believe it. I get it.

Start with one thing. Prove it to yourself. Affiliate marketing would be my suggestion. Sign up to an affiliate program, get that link and get your first sale. Then do the math. Thing about what you’d need to have that time freedom and what you need to do to create it.

You got this.

I’m cheering you on.

Here’s to total lifestyle time freedom!

Angela

It’s time to beat work at home isolation once and for all!

When I tell people that I work from home the first reaction is almost always something along the lines of how great it would be and that they wish they worked from home. I mean it sounds amazing, and really it is, with the total freedom, the completely flexible hours, the working from the couch (or the bed even), the making money while you sleep.

I quit my job back in May of 2007 and so I’ve had a lot of years to experience both the good, the bad and even the ugly of working from home. The good FAR outweighs any downsides in my opinion and that’s why I’m coming up on my 19th year of working completely from home to earn my living and support my family!

One of the big downsides, though, is isolation and loneliness. That’s real and it’s a slippery slope because work at home isolation and loneliness can lead to depression if you’re not careful.

So let’s tackle this challenge!

I’ve learned a lot from my years at home and I’ve experienced the isolation and loneliness myself, especially after I broke my leg and was on the couch for six months or when I had my baby girl almost four years ago now. Even though I see family every day we, as social beings, need more interaction in our lives than just the few people in our immediate family.

Here are my best “Beating Work at Home Isolation & Loneliness” tips:

Local friends

I meet up for coffee and lunch on the regular with people I think are awesome! It gets me out around people and that’s often enough to make me not feel isolated at all. Love spending an hour or two at the local coffee shop.

Conferences & Events

I am sad to say I haven’t been to many lately. Getting out to industry events is just a wonderful way to ramp up your energy and enthusiasm!

Join Groups

One of the best things I EVER did for my business was join a membership group. It was for moms who wanted to work at home. I did that back in 2006-ish and I still have so many friends from that group. It’s great to have people who understand what it is I do for a living.

Meetup with online business friends, In Real Life

Take those online relationships offline! Of course be safe and careful about it. Some of the best friends come from those you’ve connected with online.

Workout, Sleep & Eat Right

Working at home can lead to major inactivity if you let it. That can lead to weight gain, poor meal choices and very low energy. The thing is when you’re energy is low you don’t want to leave the house. When you don’t leave the house you’re sure to feel more isolated and alone. Keeping on top of health and fitness will give you the ability to think better and have more energy. Thus allowing you to get doing all the other tips I’ve given you so far in this post.

Rent Shared Office Space or Co-Working Space

Did you know that some places have shared office space for rent? You’re not renting a whole space on your own, rather renting a room for a few hours, days or weeks out of the month. Then there’s the whole co-working thing where you work in a big open space with other business owners… pretty cool!

Take a Class

You could take something related to your business, or not. Either way you’ll get around people of similar interests and you might make a new friend! I’m currently signed up for 18 weeks of dog training classes for good ol’ Bear, our “rescue” dog! I’m already feeling happy to connect with new people and Bear is learning new skills, too!

Take Care of YOU

This fits with suggestion six on working out and eating right but it encompasses so much more. You’ve heard the work at home people talking about spending all day in their pajamas. What about when all day turns into a week? Is that ok? What if you barely shower? What if you’re too busy working that you don’t clean the kitchen and as a result you don’t cook healthy meals. You see how this can quickly spiral out of control leaving you with no desire to leave the house or socialize. That’s a problem! Take care of YOU. Do that workout, shower, get the laundry done, cook healthy meals, clean the house and take time to do things that make you feel renewed, energetic and ready to go see the world (or at least something more than your own four walls)!

I know I’ve given you a LOT of tips. You don’t have to do them all. I don’t do them all, not all the time. I have done most at some point or another. For now I’m actually going to use this list for myself as a sort of to-do list to get out and social MUCH more than I’ve been. I hope it helps you do the same!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Nicole Dean of No Regrets Zone and The Money Besties Club. Here’s the interview:

Interview Summary: Nicole Dean of No Regret Zone

Guest: Nicole Dean, founder of No Regrets Zone — a brand built on the motto: Dream Big, Earn Big, Play Big.
Focus: Intentional living, multiple streams of income, money mindset, and weaving everyday “micro-adventures” with big, bucket-list adventures.

Big Ideas

Dream Big: Get clear on what you want in health, life, relationships, business, and play. Revisit this regularly—your desires evolve by season of life.

Earn Big (Intentionally): Build multiple income streams and be deliberate with your time and offers. Messaging matters now more than ever.

Play Big (Now, not “someday”): Schedule adventures at every scale—from a local park concert to a month in Croatia. Micro-adventures count.

Money as a Safe Friend: Nicole helps women make it, keep it, and grow it—ditching unhelpful “girl money/marketing” narratives and making finances feel safe and doable.

Health First: Consistency beats intensity. Nicole prioritizes daily tiny habits (movement, fresh air, connection, veggies, mindset) because you can’t dream/earn/play when health derails.

Unstuck Framework: Return from head to heart:

What revelation do your people need?

What transformation do you deliver?

What invitation can you make today?
When stuck, step away from screens, move/meditate/shower, then create the next thing. For legit tech/process blocks, phone a friend or hire focused help.

What She’d Do If Starting From Scratch

Clarify: Revelation → Transformation → (starter) Invitation.

Create & Share: Publish content around that message.

Build the List: Offer a free opt-in as the first invitation.

Monetize: Launch a low-to-mid offer or (if cash-tight) start with a higher-touch service to generate revenue quickly.

A Candid Business Lesson

Nicole once leaned so hard into strategy (systems, analysis, scaling) that she lost the heart and joy of her work. Profitable? Yes. Fulfilling? Less so. Her correction: create, connect, and build community while still being smart and strategic.

Practical Health Habits (Her Daily Non-Negotiables)

Intentional movement twice daily (even 5 minutes)

Fresh air daily

Intentional connection with someone she loves

Veggies every time she eats (½ plate at dinner)

Mindset time (journaling, meditation, or “problem-shifting”)

Advice for When You’re Overwhelmed

Step away from screens. Walk, shower, or meditate.

Ask: “What do I want to create right now?” Then go create it.

If it’s a real roadblock (not mindset), get a tool/video, phone a friend, or hire a coach for a focused unblock.

What’s Next for Nicole

Money Club for Women: A community focused on keeping, making, and growing money (not just investing).

Co-living/Co-working Trips in Europe: Flexible, experience-first travel with space to work as needed.

Learn More & Follow Nicole

Website: No Regret Zone

Hi, and welcome, this is Angela Willes, and today I am interviewing Nicole Dean of No Regret Zone, and hello, hi, Nicole.

Hi. Like, we already talked, but I’m saying hi to, to you, and so you can say hi to everybody who’s listening.

So, uh, yeah, you have been, you more than 20 years. That’s a long time. So we’ve known each other for a very long time, which is awesome.

And Nicole is awesome. So I wanted to bring her on as a guest to share with my community. Some wisdom that she has earned over years of working online, having her own business and just being smart and strategic, which she’s always been trying to teach me.

The strategic, I try, I try to be smart already. So, I’d love for you to say hello and introduce yourself.

Tell us, you know, what you’re up to now and just then we’ll take, take, have a conversation about the things that are that you could share with the audience.

Who’s listening? Sure. Sure. Of course. As Angela said, I’m Nicole Dean and I am the fearless leader of the No regret zone.

And at the No regret zone, our motto is dream big, earn big, play big. And we dream big by thinking of what’s possible and having an intentional life.

We earn big by creating multiple streams of income and being intentional about our time and our businesses and then we play big by going on adventures, retreats, and having an intentional life whether your adventures are there’s live music in the park and you want to take your dog down there or the adventure

spending a month in Croatia like I like to do you know I do both little adventures on a day-to-day basis I try to have micro adventures and then I also have big adventures to look forward to that I love as well.

So, that is my focus right now and on earn big when it comes to multiple streams of income that’s also being intentional not only about your business but about money.

And as you know, I am a huge fan of all things money. I love to help women with their money mindset.

I love to help them keep it. I love to help them make it and I love to help them grow it and so I’m not a financial advisor, but I do bring the big sister vibes and you know we push away the girl money, the girl marketing that’s not helpful if you want that you can go to YouTube.

What I do is I make money safe and I make money, your friend, so that’s what my revelation is that I want to bring to the world.

And my legacy is to help women dream big, earn big, and play big, and live in the Noregret zone. So that is me.

I love that. I love that. That helps me understand the regrets on more, too, because I haven’t, you know, ran through everything over there yet.

And yeah, the adventures is very much you. And of course, you need money for that. So the dreaming that it fits all in line, the dream, and you turn the money to make those adventures happen.

Where would you say, like, where did you start really focusing on money? I’m just curious. Yes. I have always had a fascination with money.

I have a quiz on my site that helps you find your money superpowers or your money archetype. Kendall Summerhawk originally designed that, and I’m licensed to share that as well.

And I ran across that years ago, and I thought, this is fascinating, because I discovered that I’m an accumulator, which means that I feel safe if I have money.

I’m a maverick and a ruler. So a ruler likes to build empires in a maverick disregard the rules. So that combination is a very interesting and powerful combination.

And I find that I attract a lot of accumulators, a lot of mavericks and a lot of rulers. So having that clarity has been really interesting, but I’ve always been fascinated with money.

I mean, I love to spend it, but I’m not a shopper, but that’s where being intentional about your money comes in because my intention with spending money could be totally different than someone else’s and that’s okay.

But even when I was little, I’ve just been fascinated with money. And then an interesting story is around 2001, I had to set aside a little bit of money.

My husband had a good job. I was a stay at home mom, but we had a little bit of money set aside.

And I wanted to buy Google and stock in Google. Oh, I was like, man, just buy Google. Yeah, no, no, not that kind of money.

I had like $1,000 set aside. And I wanted to buy stock in Google and my husband said, oh, but that’s not a real business because I went to him because I didn’t know how to do it because back then you couldn’t just go.

I know it happened by a stock that you’re interested. He said, well, that’s not a real business. And so I was deflated and I didn’t do it.

and another year later I said, I would really like to buy stock in Google and my husband who I love very much has his own money issues and his own money mindset and he said, oh that’s not a real business and so we kept not doing it and if we had done that, that would be different.

You know, our lives could be, you know, different. So, you know, even since back then I’ve always been interested in growing my money and making my money work for me instead of being this weight that dragged me along.

So, I like to keep it, I like to make it and I like to grow it, but we also live in a world where we have a relationship with money everyday.

So we have to be intentional about that as well. How we spend it Because we have to spend money just be part of be an unplanned earth, right?

Exactly and I think he like It to help women have awareness of what they can do with it because I’m thinking back to 2001 Well a little bit after 2001 because I remember my neighbor He was investing and I think he came over to our house on our computer.

And he had to log into some investment thing. I had no idea what he was doing. He had no idea what he was doing on the computer.

So neither one of us knew the other person’s like thing, but I helped him get on the computer, but at that time I knew absolutely nothing about investing.

I would not have been able to say I want to invest in Google because it just was so foreign to me and I think there’s still a lot of people that need a lot of information about money and like what is possible for us and you know of course the whole the whole thing around women and money and all that

so it’s so important what you’re doing and that’s only a part of what you know I want to bring to the table is is helping women to understand how money can work for them instead of being this battle that they’ve got going, you know, being able to embrace it instead of fearing it is definitely a big part

of what I want to do moving forward for sure. I love the adventures part two because that’s, well, I don’t know, I feel, Do you think you’re a few years ahead in terms of like, so Ella’s 11 and I’ve put so much time and attention into my kids and I’m definitely craving to get even just out around locally

. Like I just feel like there’s no intentional adventures going on for me, for my version of an adventure. like kids’ adventures, yes, all the time, but as you get past that stage, then there’s, and also, I think there could be adventures when you have kids, but that just wasn’t where I put focus, right

? But I love that you’re, that’s all part of it. The dreaming big, the, what did you say? tell me again.

You make earn big and play big. Yeah. Yeah. That’s very cool. I wanted to ask you some questions too. So before we get into that, did you have anything else to add on like what you’re focused on right now?

No, it’s just this whole feeling of I want to create connection with other women and I want to create a safe supported container where they can do those things.

They can dream big about their intentional life and their intentional business. They can earn multiple streams of income and to create a community and a way for them to play big as well.

Or if the finances aren’t there right now to play big, you know, like if I’m planning on inviting doing a co-working trip in May in Croatia and you know somebody might look at that and think oh I can’t do that yet but there are other you know the other play is just as important you know what I mean like

I’ll go down to the swimming pool with my husband and because we’re in a 55-and-up community if you can believe that and a 55-and-up community it’s like this resort type Like living on a cruise ship.

It’s really weird. I don’t know how. But yeah, but I’ll go down to the pool And I bring my floaty and we play a pretty pretty princess and I make him drag me around the pool And that can be my adventure for the day and that’s basically free.

That’s bought and paid But I’m like, I’ll be like, hey, you want to play pretty pretty princess And he’s just rolls his eyes.

I mean, he’s like, we think the pool And I like to do on a shoot pool afterwards and some like little micro adventures are so important because if we just sit in front of a screen all the time and sit in front of a screen all the time, I mean that’s our life.

You know how we spend our minutes is how we spend our years and how we spend our years is how we spend our life and I just think that playing is so important, you know, regardless of the scale.

So I just think that I want to make an invitation to women to, you know, to play, right? And they can start doing that now.

And then you don’t have to be rich to go to the beach and swim. You know, if you’ve got a beach near you, it can be your local beach or it can be a beach in Florida.

I mean, the finances are different, but the fun can be just as great, you know? Yeah. I always remember this little story about a guy who’s working really hard so he could go fishing, right?

Like, so he could make enough money so he could one day take time off and go fishing, and they’re like, well, why don’t you just go fishing right now, all right?

That’s a great story because this wealthy businessman comes up to this man and a boat, and he’s just this poor fisherman and this boat and he’s fishing and selling his fish.

And so the story, this is a story I’m assuming you’re referencing. And so of course the wealthy businessman, you know, puts on his coaches hat.

He’s like, you know, it starts there, you know. If you did this, you could sell more fish and then you could have more boats.

And then you could do this and then you could do that. And then you could make all this money and then the fisherman was like, okay, if I do that then what then you could go fishing spend your days fishing and he’s like I already do it I don’t need to do all that you know why if the end goal is to go

fishing just go fishing yeah exactly yeah I never heard that story maybe I’ve just heard retellings of it you know over different like things I people have been re-telling different versions of mix I never It told that way, but yeah, it’s so, it’s so true.

Like there’s so many things you can do now. That’s the point. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, that’s awesome. Um, my first question for you is what does lifestyle freedom mean to you personally?

Um, well, as you mentioned, my brand is the no regret zone which is dream bigger and big and play big.

And so, you know, like we focused on adventure because adventure is the fun part of that, but really it’s just about being intentional in our lives and our businesses.

And that starts with the dream big figuring out what the hack you want, what do you want your health to be like, what do you want your life to be like, what do you want your relationships to be like, what do you want your family to be like, what do you want your business to be like, what do you want

your play to be like. you know, and taking that minute to dream big and be like, okay, well, what the heck do I want now?

Because that changes over time, right? I mean, like you said, we’re in different stages of our lives. And for what I want now is very different than what I wanted, you know, a few years ago.

And my priorities have changed as well. Like, you know, as far as being intentional about my health, that has moved, you know, way up.

But taking that minute to be, to dream big about what you want your intentional life and your intentional business to look like, and what that would look like if there were no rules and no limitations at all.

Because a lot of times we think, oh, I can’t have that because X, Y, and Z. And we have real actual limitations.

This is the real world. Sometimes we do have real actual limitations. That can be a thing. But let’s be honest, nine times out of ten, the limitations that we think, and the rules that we think apply, they don’t always apply.

So if there were no rules and no limitations, what would you do? A lot of people think in order to leave the US or leave Canada and to move to Europe, you have to have all this money.

But if you look at the evidence, are people that do it without having $2 million in the bank or without having $20,000 a month of income or whatever it is that you think you have to have?

A lot of times there are ways to do things without our beliefs getting in the way of what our limitations.

You know what I mean? Yeah. And I actually, and I know we’re going to talk about things like this, but one of my favorite trainings that I’ve created is called unstuck, unmuted, unstoppable.

And in that, I do go through, like, what are real limitations and what are perceived limitations and how to get through real limitations and how to get through perceived limitations?

Because it is so interesting what we think And what really is a limit, you know, like if you have a true health issue that you can’t leave the U.S., like because of X, Y, and Z, then I mean, that might be a real limitation, but thinking you need to have $2 million in the bank before you can retire is

not necessarily a real limitation, you know, because we see people doing it with less. So I just I find it all fascinating, but what does lifestyle freedom mean to me it means that I get to choose my intentional life my intentional health as much as I can you know my intentional business and my intentional

play on a day-to-day and year-to-year you know plan scale. Yeah, so living life the way you want to live it, really, with all that, while removing the limitations so that you can, and that’s what you’re helping people with.

And by the way, anyone listening, Nicole’s been my coach since, like, what was the first time you coached me? Like 2008, I think?

That’s what I had in my head. I thought maybe like 2008, that’s a long time too. And yes, so Nicole is my go-to coach, my go-to business coach for sure.

And talking about unstuck, that’s something you helped me with more than once. And yeah, sometimes the limitations were like one I’m thinking of was a real limitation, but then we worked on, you know, working through that.

Or, you know, it was also that kind of limitation without getting into, like, talking about it for a longer period, right?

Yeah, it was both. It was like something that was real, but also how I was thinking about it, created more problems than needed to be there.

So like we worked on both ends of it. So yeah, it’s like, I love that. I love how all that ties together into what lifestyle freedom means to you as well.

So I have my next question, which is what’s one mistake you made in building your business and what did you learn from it?

Well, these are good questions because I had to really think about this one because I wanted to say not building my list sooner blah blah blah.

I don’t know. The truth is, the actual truth is, I think the biggest mistake that I’ve made that has cost me the joy in my business is that I am really, really, you know, this.

I’m really, really good at strategy. You know, money, marketing, mindset, multiple streams of income strategy. I like to get in there and make things make more money.

I love multiple streams of income. I love marketing. But I started to focus so much on strategy that I lost the heart of my business.

You know what I mean? I lost the connection with it because I got so much in my head on all the strategy and analyzing and and making things work like specifically over at Coach Glue when I had that business.

I mean, it was extremely profitable. You know, we’re making millions over there. And so it was extremely profitable and a big part of why that was was because of the strategy, but I got so deep into that that I lost.

I lost the heart and soul and joy of what what I wanted to do in the world and in how I wanted to show up and in my legacy, in my in my revelation that I wanted to bring to people and in the movement that I wanted to create and so I chose the safe, smart path and I don’t regret it and also I missed this

I need to create, I need to connect, I need community and so you know that’s a part of why Melissa and I chose to close coach Lewis because we both just felt callings to be in different spaces and to to be able to use our voices more.

And so, yeah, let me see if I’m interested. Thank you so much. There’s one thing I’ll be able to do that, but yeah, I want to turn that.

Yeah. Well, I want to be more part of the human experience, and so anyway, that would be my biggest regret.

And a big part, let me be totally vulnerable and honest here, a big part of why I did that is because it was safe.

It was a safe choice. I didn’t have to, I didn’t have to be seen as much, so I could just be busy instead of being as impactful as I wanted to be.

And I know my customers over at Coach Flew were very thankful, and I know that they got good results. And I, like I said, that I don’t regret that.

And also it’s interesting to be able to go, yeah, that happened. Okay, this is not why I’m doing this. Yeah, I love money, I love making money.

But I, like we all do, we all find ways to hide and so that was part of why when you asked me if I would do this, I was like, absolutely.

What a perspective to be able to come to what you’re doing next with, right? So you can really help people guide them, help them see, you know, some things that they might not see right away and help keep that balance.

So in that connection too, so very cool. Thank you for sharing that. If you had to start over from scratch is kind of a little bit what you’re doing with moving away from coach glue but not from scratch scratch.

So you can take this question however you want it but if you had to start it up over from scratch what would you do first?

Yeah I do have notes because you did give me the questions in advance and that’s exactly what I wrote down was I am starting over right now but it’s unfair to say that I am starting from scratch because you know if somebody’s listening to this and they truly are starting from scratch.

I mean, I have my knowledge base, I have my experience, I have my relationships, my friends, my connections, and my reputation.

I mean, that’s all stuff that’s worth a lot. Yeah. So I’m not starting from scratch and I don’t want to be.

And I do want to be cognizant of the fact that I recognize that. So right now my biggest focus is on getting clear on the revelation that I’m helping my people to find and the transformation that I provide and the invitation that I want to put out there for them.

So, I think for anybody starting over or pivoting, because I know a lot of people are re-evaluating what they’re doing in their businesses right now.

I think it comes down to those three things. What revelation are you trying to help your audience to see? What is a transformation that you provide and what’s the invitation that you would like to put out there for them to work with you or for them to learn from you?

And then strategy wise, if I were to actually be starting from scratch without my connections without my reputation, without anything, then I would start creating writing and sharing on that topic, that whatever my revelation and my transformation were, I won’t have an invitation yet because I’d be starting

over. So I wouldn’t have any offers. So the invitation I would create first would be a free offer, something free that they can start to sign up for so that when I start to write and create, then I do have an invitation that oh sign up for this free thing.

And then based on the response that I got and what really connected and what I really felt was standing out as the thing that I wanted to create my offer on.

I would either start with a low-mid offer to put out there to start to generate some sales or if money was tighter than I might flip the funnel and start by offering a higher personalized experience first, instead of starting at the bottom, so I could get that bigger impact first, demanding how things

came in. But that would be what I would do if I was literally starting out without my reputation, without my knowledge, without anything.

That’s that’s what I would do. I love that. You make me, you remind me of when I did get started.

That was, That’s pretty much what I did. Like I started building my last way back when they didn’t even have that much software for it, but we started talking about this in communities you and I were in, or in one being community we were in.

They talked about that early about building your list. And then I did one offer that was like lower priced. I think it was like $20.

And then from there, I went to like a $300 back in 2010. 2010. So yeah, and then that was that got me rolling along at what I ended up doing.

So it’s very similar and I think I’ll do the same again, like what you just said. I would do what you said.

But that’s good. Similar to what Cindy, I already interviewed Cindy and she said she would create content as well. So of course, I have smart friends.

you kind of have to start by like getting out there a little bit and getting a feel for what you want to say right like the more you write it or you’ll be practicing uh knowing what you’re trying to say instead of just sitting there with it all like rolling around in your head you’ll get it out and get

it you know published and see if it resonates with people and all that right You can start to clarify your messaging because messaging is everything now more so than ever messaging is so so key.

Yes, I’m having to shift, you know, because I spent a lot of time on it’s still very important but like a lot of my efforts have gone into relationship building with my community and my people.

But I’ve got to get clearer on my messaging and I know I know that. So I have my next question.

Yeah, it’s not a it’s not a one and done because we evolve and we change as we change, you know, our message changes who we want to work with evolves.

I mean, we’re I hope that everyone listening I hope that you and I are evolving and along with our evolution, you know, our businesses should be evolving as well.

Well, absolutely. We had the same people. We were in 2004 when we started. Exactly. You’re making me think of, well, my messaging was a lot around being a mom, home with her younger kids, like that messaging is irrelevant for me anymore, but it’s certainly resonated with so many people, but it doesn’t

resonate with me anymore. So things are shifting either. All right so what daily habit or mindset shift has made the biggest or a big difference for you?

Well this was an interesting one because I just had knee surgery so this is definitely on my mind because for about a month of the last seven months I wasn’t able to walk at all and I was and screaming pain and doctors weren’t listening to me and it just dragged out three surgeons.

They kept telling me everything was fine and so this was on this was on my mind. So to me my health has to be my number one priority period.

Hard stop. My health is my number one priority. I can’t dream big, I can’t earn big, and I can’t play big if my health is not being taken care of.

I know this from the last seven months, I couldn’t even think about planning a trip, I couldn’t think about going to the pool, I couldn’t even go on a walk, I couldn’t do any play at all because I wasn’t so much pain.

My business suffered and that’s dream big side of things. I couldn’t even get excited about anything in the future because the pain was so unbearable.

So to me, my health has to be my number one priority all the time, if I wanna make any money because the saying of you can have 1,000 problems until something goes wrong with your health then you have one problem right?

You have one and only one problem and that’s what happened. You was when my knee, I had a torn meniscus, torn bucket handle meniscus so it would get stuck under my kneecap and when that was happening, I wasn’t sending emails, I wasn’t planning, I wasn’t CEOing, I wasn’t doing anything.

I mean, I mean, luckily I have multiple streams of income. So I had money coming in, but I wasn’t doing any of the active work or maintenance or anything in my business.

So for the adventures part, which is really important to you. Anyone who knows you knows that. Yeah, it was crazy because like my grandma’s 96 and I love her dearly.

And I’m like, I don’t know if I’m ever going to be able to see her again because I can’t sit in a car.

As sure as that can’t sit on a plane, I can’t walk through an airport. How am I going to see my grandma again.

And so I was able to because I did it, finally find a surgeon that said he would go in and look and then he went holy crap.

Why didn’t the show up on the MRI? I’m like, why did it have to? I told you. I described exactly what was happening.

So I digress. I do tiny habits when it comes to health because I know that consistency is more important than intensity for me and I know if I don’t do my tiny habits every day and I take rest days then they become rest months so I just I do my tiny habits every single day and even when my knee was out

I still tried my best to do them in some way shape or form so my tiny habits are and this won’t surprise do they’re all intentional intentional movement two times a day and that can be as little as five minutes twice a day but it has to be intentional so walking around the grocery store doesn’t count

unless I’m specifically going to the grocery store because I haven’t done my intentional movement but that doesn’t help intentional fresh air every day I know for my mental health that I need to get fresh air every day.

Intentional connection with somebody I love every day. Intentional veggies, because I know if I don’t want to get obsessive about what I eat, so rather than focusing on dieting, I just make sure that I am eating vegetables every time I eat something.

And half my plate at dinner is veggies, and then intentional mindset. I do something for my mindset every day, whether that’s a meditation outside so I can check mindset and fresh air or if it’s you know taking some time to do some problem shifting which is a method that I used to get through being mindset

issues or journaling but it’s It’s usually my shifting, problem shifting, and being outside, doing a little bit of meditation.

So I do those every day because I have to. I don’t buy defaults, have good mental or physical health. So I know that I can’t just hope that I’ll be okay.

Okay, so I have to be careful about my health in order to have the life and business and to be able to play.

It’s probably not what people were expecting, they’re probably thinking, you know, what’s your daily habit, daily mind shift, but consistency is the only thing that works for me is and consistent.

And I can’t do stuff that would hurt myself anymore. So it’s not like I can go, oh, I’ll go on at 13 mile hike on Saturday.

And that’s my exercise for the week because then I’m going to be out next four days. So that’s what I do.

That’s what I’ve done for years now because I have to. Yeah. The health health is everything. So that’s amazing that you know, and you’ve got that emphasized by having that down time that was not in your plans.

So yeah. It just reminded me. Yeah. Give me give me a good old-fashioned kick in the button reminded me. Hey, and let’s make sure you’re next 50 years you can you know you’re okay.

Yeah that’s what we want and where everybody’s living longer so don’t think you’re like you know people I hear people talking they’re 60 like they got not much time left like you you could have so much time left like you’re only like maybe 60 percent of your life through yet so we got a lot.

We can’t control everything think about our health obviously. I there are there’s there’s bad stuff that can happen, but also we can increase our odds in a lot of ways.

I mean like we need the the science is 6,000 steps a day. Decreases are risk of cancer, diabetes, heart attack, bad depression, anxiety.

It’s like 6,000 like drastically decreases our risk of those five things. Okay, I can I can aim for 6,000. I mean, that’s not 10,000.

10,000 is a challenge sometimes. Yeah, I try to make 6,000 my average. So some days I miss it.

Some days I go over because I can’t get obsessive about things or it’s not great for me. So I just aimed for 6,000 as my average over the course of the year.

I think it’ll over the course of the month, ideally, over the course of the week, but I’m not obsessive about it on a weekly basis, but over a month, yeah, I want to be there.

I want to hit that. Yeah. Awesome. What advice would you give to someone who feels stuck or overwhelmed? So, you know, I have a course on this, not really a course, but just more of a hand holding on this.

But I was trying to think about what is the one thing. And I think for me, it’s what I said before is getting out of your head and getting back into your heart because I find that I spin in my head, but if I just get to the okay, what is it that I really want here?

Then all this stuff kind of goes, oh, well this. It’s like okay, well if that’s what I want, then what’s all this?

That makes sense to me. So what I do when I’m stuck is I get away from all the screens because I know that when I’m stuck my tendency is to do this or to get on my screen and I avoid and I know I avoid and I do it in the name of research I do it in the name of I’m taking a break I do it in the name of

all kinds of things but I know to my toes and in my bones that I’m just avoiding the thing I’m not helping myself.

So when I find myself in overwhelm and I find myself to be stuck, I get away from all screens. Then I either go on a walk if the weather is, you know, permits or I go take a shower or I will go meditate.

And I basically, when I go on a walk yet in the shower and meditate, I just asked myself, what do I want to create right now?

What do I want to create right now? What do I want to either create in my business or create in the world or create for my audience?

And nine times out of 10, it’s like, oh, this thing. It’s like, OK, well, then get back on the computer and create that thing then.

Quit making it hard. It’s not hard to just go create that thing. And that’s when I get stuck in my head, but I’ll get back to that revelation transformation invitation.

Again, what do they need right now? But if and when that doesn’t work, because sometimes if and when that doesn’t work, then I realize that it’s a bigger problem, so then, and I kind of go through this in the unstuck training it’s like when is it a legit stuck versus when is it a mindset stuck and if

it’s a legit stuck then I know I need to find a tool I need to find a YouTube video that’s gonna show me how to do something I need to phone a friend to figure out like I contacted you because I was making a cart switch a cart switch and I’m like okay I know I can’t do this on my own I know I don’t want

to to do this on my own. So who do I know that I can phone a friend? It’s so I phone Angela and I’m like, hey, do you want to co-work with me for a little bit and maybe help me out with this and I’ll help you out with something if you get stuck or we can look at some things together for each other and

she’s like, oh, that sounds fun. So it’s okay to reach out to a friend. It’s okay to get support and if you’re still stuck, that’s when it’s time to reach out for a coach or like a VIP, you know, Angela has her get on stock days where you can actually have her looking at your screen or getting into your

thing and getting you on stock. If you know you’re up here and you need to get here and this is an obvious roadblock and you just need somebody to bust it, then that’s where sometimes you just get a higher somebody get through that roadblock especially if there’s money over here and you’re stuck over

here in the roadblocks here. Yeah, but it’s to that money. Those are such good suggestions. It was so fun just getting on working with you like if you if someone’s listening and they have a friend they can just get on and they’re talking working together like that was so fun hiring a coach you know doing

something like my behavior yeah like I think those would all help and then like you and just getting away from everything, taking a breath, getting some fresh air.

Yeah. And it is hard because there is legitimate stock. There’s legitimate stock, like I remember one time where I had to update some chrome thing and I was like, okay, this is so beyond my capability.

And so, I mean, that was a legit stock. But then there’s the mindset stock where you’re just spinning because you know, you’re all these fears and beliefs and identity and all of that stuff is running and that’s where, you know, just hopping in and going, okay, heart, what do my people need today?

What is the revelation I can provide? What is the transformation that I can give them and what is the invitation I want to put out there for them today?

And if you can get to that, then you’re always good. Yeah, it is the path to cash and to roll with and to getting unstuck.

Thank you. As good advice. What’s one tool resource or system you can’t live without in your business? Okay so this question I almost asked you to throw out because not that it’s not a good question but because I all my only answer was there isn’t one.

So like back in the day when we started this question was so easy to answer because the tools were so limited.

I can’t live without this tool in my business like WordPress because there were no options or I can’t live without this one cart because there wasn’t a better option or I couldn’t live without this list building because there weren’t other good options.

So it used to be a really easy question for me to answer. And now there’s literally so many alternatives for everything and good alternatives.

It’s not like, oh, I’ll settle for this, but like, those are really nice, you know? And that can make it harder, actually, because like, You know, I have one shopping cart choice back in the day, right?

Everything has alternatives, so like I was thinking about it, and I’m like, okay, I think my phone would be my tap-out answer because I can use my phone to phone a friend, you know?

I can use my phone to text with a friend and to reach out and I need that level of support on my daily connection you know, intentional connection, I need that to be able to text and things but really in your business you only need, you know, a way to create pages, a way to deliver your product, a way

to take payments and a way to promote and as far as what tools you use for anything. I got nothing, I was like maybe zoom and then I went no because there’s there’s Google meets now too and that’s really good and it’s easy to get the link out there it is yeah I’ve been tempted to kind of flip over to

that because I was using it when I was doing the travel business they were using it it was fine I mean I think they don’t get recordings there though or you have to pay for that part no I think you do oh do you maybe they just didn’t know how to do it I think it costs about the same as zoom if you do

the Google Sweet or whatever it is, but yeah, like talking tools we could be here for Is that gonna change by the time somebody listens to this it’ll could all change so I don’t want to give specific something that but But truly I cannot think of a tool resource or system That I can’t live with that

which is also good because that means that, you know, if something isn’t working for you, then there are alternatives out there, which I think is really important to know that stock or somebody like if you’re using something and they increase the price or you’re using something and whatever it’s networking

for you are ethically the business is not an alignment with you and you don’t want to give them your money anymore, you can you can switch.

you can absolutely switch so as good still yeah I should have tried to answer these myself and see what people thought but I think it’s good to have this discussion around it anyway and say you know there’s there’s no one answer for you and that’s a good thing like you said well what would your answer

be like I want I want to say WordPress because I’ve used it so much for so long like you know, but I could use wicks or squiffs space I’m sure if I needed to or not even use a website if I wanted to like I could I could do stuff with email instead or so I’m sure I could live without anything.

So I think you’re right. I know. And the question is to live without it is like I’m not going to die if WordPress goes away.

I’m not going to lose my business, right? I’m not going to lose my business if any of the tools go away, um, the only thing I really kill my business would be if, like, the internet disappeared tomorrow, because then I’d be like, oh, all right, we got to figure something else out.

Right. But that’s an awful level of technology. You know, they call that an awful level technology for a reason because if that were to go poof like Everything Yeah, yeah, our whole our whole existence would change everybody be scrambling in the same way though at the same time So I mean airplanes couldn’t

fly everything is so computerized now and oh my gosh How would you book a ticket you’d have to call again?

it. With the phone’s work, are they tied to me? We don’t have a home, a landline. Those are the wired lines, right?

That’s catastrophe level. That’s like there’s a show called Revelation, a revolution, or something like that, where everything went down. So it’s a pretty interesting show watch so yeah no great those are so many great great discussions we had with those questions and I loved digging into what you’re

doing now and discussing that a bit more. I definitely want you to share your link but I have one more question before like not share your link but tell people where they can find you and also tell them your URL but what’s next for you in your journey?

My big what’s now that my knees fixed and have the clarity and the energy and I can do things again my next big plan is I’m going to be launching a money club for women and that’s going to be based on not just the investing but the keeping it making it and growing it side of things.

I’m biting off a lot, so I’m still kind of putting it like it’s still coming together, but I’m really excited about that.

And then I’m talking with, you know, Tracy, Tracy Roberts about some trips coming up, co-working, co-living trips, focusing on the co-living.

You know, if people want to work, they can, but I’m not going to have six hours a day of masterminds.

It’s going to be, we’re there to experience. And if you want to stay back and work and you have a call, then that’s cool.

You’re a grown-ass woman. You go ahead and do that. You know. So it’ll be more of an invitation to go somewhere in Europe and hang out and also have flexibility to be able to work because I want to spend more time traveling and as much as I admire women that solo travel, that’s not what I want to do.

I want to travel with women that I want to spend time with and adventure with. And so I want to create that.

Those are the two things I’m working on creating right now. That’s so exciting. I love it. So yeah, please tell people where they can find you and make sure you tell them you’re up.

I am at, again, Nicole Dean and I am at noregretzzone.com and I’m sure Angela will have some links under this video for some free and paid things that you can check out of mine and I would love to have you do that and be part of my world.

It’s pretty fun here. It is. I, of course, anyone I’m interviewing, I’m highly, highly recommending you go check out what they offer, who they are because they’re my favorite people.

So definitely go see Nicole over at Norbert Zone and thank you so much for being here to discuss lifestyle, freedom and money and adventures.

I love it all. Sounds good to me. So thank you. Thank you for having me, Angela. Bye.

A Lifestyle Entrepreneur runs a Lifestyle Business.

What is a lifestyle business?

It’s a business that allows you to:

Work the hours you want to work

Work on the projects you want to work on

Work with the people you want to work with

Work from the places you want to work with

A Lifestyle Entrepreneur puts LIFE FIRST, then the business.

This means you have to build your business by design. You have to think about what you want from that business in terms of your LIFE.

This is not something that ambitious entrepreneurs always do. They think that the business HAS to consume them and their life.

Hey – I love that for you if that’s what you want. But if it’s not, then becoming a lifestyle entrepreneur might be right for you.

As a mom to two amazing kids for the last 23 years I did NOT want to have a business that consumed all my time.

I purposefully built a business and a life that allowed me to drop everything and be there for my kids. That’s what I wanted. That’s why I started my business in the first place!

I’ll be honest with you here – as a mom it was HARD. The years were not flush with cash. While I was changing diapers and waking up late nights I had little time for my business. YET – I found ways to earn a full time income on part time hours.

To me this is the true spirit of a lifestyle entrepreneur!

You can make it work AROUND your life.

You might not always rake in the dough but your priorities could also be elsewhere, consuming your life, while the business pays the bills.

NOW that my kids are older my goals as a lifestyle entrepreneur are to take my lifestyle business to the next level. Doubling or tripling my income in the next few years!

You can see my 21 year online business income report here.

Peek Into the Life of a Lifestyle Entrepreneur:

Running an online business is all the good things you hear:

Make money while you sleep.

Generate passive income (work once, get paid more than once).

Create leverage by selling something once and getting paid over and over.

As far as LIFE and how that looks, it’s all those things, too:

Pick up your kids from school anytime you want.

Work the hours you want, day or night, flexible or scheduled.

Freely choose what you want to work on because YOU want to work on it.

Create the business you want that reflects the life you want to live and live it!

Take time off with automation and/or scheduling options of tools you use.

It’s also the things we don’t love:

Figuring things out yourself – sink or swim.

Dealing through times when NOTHING seems to work.

Feel lonely because you work alone.

I was watching a video from someone who’d transitioned from a corporate job to running a “digital business”.

She said she didn’t really believe it was true.

She didn’t think you could REALLY just put stuff out on the internet and make a living doing so.

It IS true. You CAN do that. You can create your own Lifestyle Business!

How to Start a Lifestyle Business

Step 1: Find something you are VERY passionate about.

It’s not going to be easy so you need to decide on something that is going to excite you long term.

Step 2: Start creating a community of followers.

A lot of people go to social media for this. Sure, it’s easy to start but I personally think it’s a HAMSTER WHEEL of work… you can’t stop, you can’t get off. Instead – EMAIL. Email marketing is my jam. Always been and always will be! If you want to do like I did – build the email list ASAP. I’ve got classes on how to do that here.

Step 3: Get offers.

You could do affiliate marketing. You could create your own courses. You could offer coaching (like coaching without calls). You could start a membership. Whatever you do you need something to sell. This is how you make the money that lets you create the lifestyle and it’s what makes up a business so don’t skip this step!

Step 4: Optimize, Automate, Delegate and Scale.

When you have build a following (that you KEEP building) you will then need to think about how to scale. As a busy mom it took me about 17 YEARS to get to this step. The cool thing is, though, that I could take it at my pace. Now as my last child gets older and more independent I start to focus more and more on scaling my business.

Whatever you decide to do remember this:

Everything is made up. You can make your own rules, do your own thing and create the exact right lifestyle freedom business you want to! It’s so exciting to decide and declare to be a lifestyle entrepreneur. I wish you nothing but the best with it and to enjoy the ride!

If you want some ideas on how to use ChatGPT for business (and a little bit for life) then this post is full of REAL WAYS I’ve used Chatty (my nickname for her).

I asked ChatGPT to make this list for me so a lot of this post itself is AI written. I’ve reviewed it fully and updated anything needed with my own notes or edits.

All my other posts are human written so anytime you see a post from me you can be sure it’s written by me UNLESS otherwise indicated.

Let’s get to the list and then below are some thoughts from myself on the use of AI in business and when it crosses the link or is unethical.

Here’s how to use ChatGPT for business based on my own experience:

Content Creation & Marketing

The “writing” below is mostly outlines or a written idea that I then take as an example of what I’ll go write myself.

EVERYTHING that is produced in my business is approved by me. Something I think will help my audience based on my own core values and experiences.

ChatGPT has absolutely helped me write so much faster, though, because of the brainstorming, extra ideas, editing, SEO tips and more!

Writing promotional emails and sales campaign templates to edit

Creating social media posts (Instagram Reels, Pinterest, etc.)

Writing blog post outlines and SEO-optimized content

Drafting scripts and outlines for YouTube videos

Developing lead magnets (PDFs, checklists, guides) – Chatty helped me create this awesome challenge.

Writing website copy and landing pages

Generating email sequences for courses, memberships, and affiliate offers

Creating resources for your Social Media Detox Challenge

Generating engaging captions for Instagram posts

Business Strategy & Revenue Growth

Product Development & Passive Income

Brainstorming and refining course ideas

Outlining new digital downloads and printable products

Helping with website flipping as a potential revenue stream

Outsourcing & Automation

Identifying which business tasks to outsource first

Creating a plan to increase outsourcing as revenue grows

Streamlining workflows to save time

Financial Planning & Business Expenses

Reducing business expenses for better profitability

Planning for investments to grow the business

Personal & Lifestyle Freedom

Planning your schedule to balance multiple businesses

Creating a Life Transformation Blueprint for structured personal and business growth

Incorporating the 8+8+8 rule to optimize work, rest, and play

Structuring time for travel while maintaining business income

Managing overwhelm by prioritizing tasks effectively

Not on the list. Recently I asked ChatGPT to create a mock up for a blog and here is what it gave me:

Then I asked Chatty to recreate the background of this so I could work with it. I took that to Canva and ended up creating this version on the WordPress site:

The key thing to note here is that I am NOT a designer and normally I just can NOT visualize a look like this to create it myself. But if it’s already visualized then YES, I can model it.

I think it’s important to really realize just how many ways ChatGPT is affecting the online business industry.

This doesn’t have to be something to fear but I think it really is so important to learn how to use ChatGPT for business – even if you don’t intend to do so – you know what it is capable of doing and how it could affect your business.

Hope this list helps you do just that!

Cheers,

Let’s talk about a closed mindset vs an open mindset.
Or a fixed mindset vs a growth mindset.
Or the “Be Do Have” mindset.

What it comes down to is that you can change your mind.
You can change the thoughts you think.

We have those “on the surface” thoughts that we can basically hear. They come from both our conscious mind and subconscious mind.

It’s said that most people think up to 70,000 thoughts a day and possibly as low as 6,000 thoughts a day.

That might feel very overwhelming to try to control. Our brain forms thought patterns that pop up automatically so what we can to do is retrain our brain.

This is where mindset comes in. You need to feed your brain, like a computer, new programming.

This isn’t a simple thing.
It’s not a one time thing.
Mindset is a practice, a habit and continually effort!

In my early years I did NOTHING for my own mindset.

I didn’t care about it.

I didn’t believe in it.

I thought I just had to put my head down and WOORK!

Work I did.

About 60 hours a week – so there was no time for self-care, relationships, anything.

$15 an hour – so I made very little money and didn’t even charge for most of the hours I did work.

For many clients who did not appreciate me – because I really wasn’t in the right mindset to appreciate myself! (I did have some amazing clients, too, though)

Things that helped my mindset:

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind (a book) by T. Harv Ecker

The 80/20 Rule

The Wheel of Life

Actual in person therapy

Creating proof

Gratitude (as simple of being happy to be alive)

I go through every single one of these in my course, UNBREAKABLE Mindset. I’ve got some details for you below.

However, even if you don’t buy my course I want you to take away from this post that you CAN find your way to…

So much peace in your own mind.

More confidence in your abilities to create and grow.

Be, do and have the things you want in life.

Stop feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and confused (or at least feel them very rarely)!

About the course:

Mindset is not just about thinking positive.

Creating a positive mindset that helps you in life, business and relationships is something that takes work and the right strategies.

Maybe getting up at 5am and running 5 miles ISN’T for you – it’s not the only way! I’ve NEVER been part of the 5am club myself. That doesn’t mean you can’t ROCK your mindset!

I get it. Big time. The appeal of staying home with our little ones while running a business is undeniable for many so moms.

When my son was four months old, I looked at his little face and decided that I would start a business, quit my career in environmental tech and be home with him while I do it!

Here’s a photo of us a few years later when I achieved my dream of being a stay at home work at home mom:

Starting a business as a work at home, stay at home mom is one of the smartest decisions I’ve ever made in my life!

Easy? No. Smart? Yes!

The home business ideas for stay at home moms are nearly endless. In this post what I’ll do is share some of the things I’ve tried and that have worked for me, or not. I’ll share the pros and cons of each and where I’ve landed now, some 22 years later!

This is gonna be fun…

Idea #1: Create or sell physical products

My first business was all about selling bath and body products that were created by myself and my dad, who became my business partner.

This was in 2002 when selling on the internet was BARELY a thing. I set up an ecommerce store and actually had random strangers on the internet buying my stuff!

These days, it’s so much easier to set up shop with websites like Etsy, Shopify and more.

Pros:

You can sell locally and get started right away. Make a product and join a local vendor sale and you’re off and running.

Online selling tools like Shopify make it pretty easy to get a shop up.

There’s a great satisfaction to knowing someone is physically using your product to enhance their life in some way!

Cons:

Depending on the product, it can be hard and/or costly to scale the business.

Shipping can be a pain! Packing up and figuring out pricing.

It’s a lot of work to make a product from scratch and often it’s hard to get great pay for the labor put into it.

Overall I moved away from this model because I discovered selling things digitally online. I have played with the idea of offering a physical product again but the work of creating the products, scaling the business and shipping them out didn’t seem worth it to me.

Obviously if everyone thought this there’d be a huge gap in the marketplace so if you have an amazing idea or product, maybe this is for you!

However, if this option just isn’t for you maybe services would be a better fit:

Idea #2: Offer a Service (Freelancing)

There is a huge need for services out there and so many directions you can go.

For me I offered all online (digital) services but off the top of my head there are services in: dog walking, housecleaning, painting, home decor, organizing that could sometimes be done on “off hours” while someone watches the kids for you. Of course that wouldn’t fully fit the idea of being home WITH your kids so that’s where digital comes back in.

One of the FIRST services I offered was Virtual Assistance. I quit my job in 2007 to be a Virtual Assistant and I never looked back! I don’t teach anything about this now as I’ve been clientless since 2012 but I highly recommend VA Networking for VA education – check out these 10+ free VA Resources on my friend Tawnya’s site!

Other services you can offer:

Website Designer – Build websites for online business, local clients or even corporations once you really refine your skills. If you’ve never built a website you can learn how here.

Affiliate Manager – Companies who run affiliate programs need someone to help them find affiliates, motivate them to make sales and create sales materials (or direct the team to create them). This can be a great service to offer! Learn about affiliate marketing here.

Freelance Writer – Write blog posts, articles, content for business owners to help them grow.

Graphics Designer – Create graphics for clients if you have a flare for design!

Social Media Manager – Love social media and know how to get views and engagement? You might be a great Social Media Manager!

Coaching – If you have skills that fit the bill to be a coach this is a great service you can offer. If you’re interested in being a business coach I have a course that’s perfect for getting clients without filling your calendar here.

Other specialized skill sets – Maybe you’re a Lawyer, Bookkeeper, Accountant, Editor, etc. There are many ways you can transfer these skills to an online business with clients.

Pros:

Find a client and you can be earning money almost right away.

You’ll learn so much by working with people making money and getting a peek behind the curtain!

If you price your offers right you won’t need to work with many clients to make a good income.

Cons:

You are allowing people to buy your time which they can be very picky/controlling over. Be careful with solid boundaries!

If you rely on your income from only a few people it can be unstable so always be marketing in case you need to fill a spot in your client base.

It’s in many ways like a job. You have to show up, do the work you are told to do (within scope) and work with whoever you agreed to work with. They are counting on you and you’re not making the decisions on how that goes.

Personally I loved the services business for the pros listed but I also could not stand the idea of people owning my time for the long term.

These days I DO offer coaching as a service but not as a full business model. I take on just a small few coaching clients who take a small portion of my time. I’m going to be revising my coaching offers, too, so that I no longer work with a client for a year. It will be more like a quick project of a VIP week and done. And if ever I decide I don’t want to open them up, then I won’t have any client work on my agenda.

The major downside to services is that you trade your hours for dollars. Once they’ve gained experience and results many freelancers also shift to a digital product business:

Idea #3: Selling Digital Products

Unlike the last two ideas selling digital products needs less of your time over time and is infinitely scalable.

eBooks, Courses, Group Coaching and other such offers can be created for free and scale.

To get started selling digital products you want to look at yourself, first. What do YOU have to offer.

It could be a career you are currently in with a skillset you can teach to others (for example you might be a reporter who decides to teach courses on how to get media exposure). It could be something you’re really good at (for example you might be amazing at decorating for the holidays so you teach a course on that).

Once you determine what it is you can teach others you then want to do some research to see if there is a demand for that thing. You can use a keyword tool, such as Keysearch, to see what people are searching on Google.

You’re looking for topics that people are looking for so you can help fill that need.

Another way to decide if what you want to offer is worth jumping into is by seeing what else is out there. If there are other profitable sites on the topic then it’s a likely chance that you’ll be able to sell in that niche.

Now my favorite way to start selling digital products is to use email marketing at the same time. I’m building my email list at the same time as I’m building my digital products.

Using the email list I let my subscribers get to know me, my core values, my messaging and then even if I make a few pivots and shift directions over time, they stay with me and continue to be long-term loyal customers.

Pros:

Other than any costs to create the product initially, it’s FREE to deliver your product. Once you’ve paid any upfront costs (which are minimal if you’re not outsourcing yet) everything after that is PURE PROFIT!

Very scalable business. You can sell to 10 people or 1000 people without having to change your business model.

Can be VERY fast to implement. Depending on what kind of digital offer you create you could be selling TODAY. For example if you do a live workshop you can pre-sell that for three weeks from now, get the payments up front and then create it in plenty of time to deliver it live.

Cons:

The industry moves fast and changes happen often. You need to keep up with trends and cycles. This is like any business, though.

There is a ton of competition out there but that shouldn’t deter you – a lot of it is terrible so just create good stuff and you will stand out!

Potential customers may struggle with the perceived value as it is not a physical product and they can’t “see” it. This is where your job to rely the information of the value it provides is essential.

I shifted through all of these business models. I started with the soap business in 2002 right after my son was born. That didn’t fully work out as hoped so I took a temporary factory job in 2005. I started in services in 2006 and quit my factory job in 2007 to be a Virtual Assistant. Then in 2008 I created my first digital course and by 2012 I stopped taking regular clients and focused on building my digital products business into a full time income!

Ultimately, my best advice is to not take too long to get going. Don’t overthink it! Just TRY SOMETHING. Pick the first thing you think looks good and go for it. This is because there is absolutely no “right” answer here – there’s just taking steps forward and improving as you go.

Wishing you all the very best as you build your stay at home business that’s just right for you. Remember that first step is the most important!

It’s always a good time to get your business plan straight. As I write this it’s the end of the year and it’s now an especially great time to do so! Walk right on into the new year with the confidence that you’ve done the work to set the foundation on a successful 2026.

Here are the steps I’m taking and suggest you do, too:

Review Your Business – The Audit

If you have a year of business under your belt then you have data and experience to look back on and work out.

Looking back isn’t great as a regular practice but as an occasional strategy it’s a great way to spot things that may not be working to stop, things that are working to improve, things to add, etc.

What kinds of things can you audit in an online business? Here are my suggestions:

Important Business Information such as hosting, domains owned, software, WordPress plugins, etc.

Education and Professional Development so you know what you’ve bought and whether you’ve done the work to get the ROI on those purchases.

Sales and Marketing that moves the needle such as what offers you sell, what you have planned for the new year, ads, affiliate team, etc.

Business Expenses such as hosting, memberships, software and ongoing payments. Look at what you can reduce, cut, keep or pay for annually to save money.

Team and Services Management for any people you hire or services you use to grow or maintain your business.

Plan Your Offer Marketing

Knowing what you intend to sell and how you intend to sell it at least for Q1 is going to allow you to hit the ground running when January hits.

It seems like every month of the year we say “where did the month go?” so you don’t want to fall into that in January.

Many people will use the time between Christmas and New Years to get things in order, so you may want to do that as well if you haven’t been on top of it yet.

I use a sticky note calendar for my offer marketing that looks like this:

Get Your Finances In Order

Could 2026 be the year you finally have all your tax information ready to go when the time rolls around? YES – it could be! When you get your finances in order at the beginning of the year and follow the system all year long.

By doing this you are showing yourself (and the universe if you believe in that sorta thing) that you are SERIOUS about having more money come to you.

I have a spreadsheet I’ve created over 20 years that I use to track all my income, all my expenses, my monthly income goal and my profit margin for the month/year. The spreadsheet also sorts all my expenses into the categories for tax reporting so I can just pull them out easily come tax time!

Create a Budget

Are you really going to just buy everything that comes your way in 2026 or are you going to create a budget that makes sense?

Another way to do this is NEVER buy anything that you don’t plan to fully earn back an ROI (Return on Investment) from. That way you can use the money you make off one purchase to fund the next purchase or boost your purchase budget.

So many people fall victim to the idea that they can buy their way into success. They think success is in the next coach or the next course and they keep searching for “the one”.

Please don’t do that!

“The one” is you. You are the only person who’s going to turn your business into a success. Courses and coaches and products are absolutely resources and helpful along the way – I recommend them! Just don’t come to rely on the idea that you can keep buying until you eventually get all the money back – MAKE the money back with clear intention action or don’t buy it.

I personally have a business budget spreadsheet that I review at least once a year to give myself a goal spending max. I also ALWAYS look at any purchase and decide if I can use it immediately to get an ROI. If not, I pass.

Project Your Future Income

If I want to make $20k this month I don’t just sit back and hope for it. I project it. I create a path to success by looking at my offers and determining how many of those offers I need to sell to make it to the goal income.

Then I work backwards to see if I can make that happen. Sometimes the price of the offer is not enough with the amount of traffic I could send to the salespage – so I either need to revise the income goal, the offer or the pricing so that I CAN reach the goal.

Monitor Your KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

What are the metrics that move your business?

I’ve been having so many discussions on this with my peers as the year ends. We are talking about how to know which metrics to choose, how to keep from feeling overwhelming when looking to collect data and how to use that data to grow our businesses.

If this is all new to you then keep it simple!

I remember in my very, very early years and I was a burned out virtual assistant who went for a job interview at a bookkeeping software company. One of the first questions they asked me about my business was “what metrics do you track?”. I knew SO LITTLE about the idea of tracking data that I replied “Metrics?”… I didn’t even know what they meant!

But… you learn and you grow. That’s what we do in business.

My important metrics for the next three months are:

Salespage Views – because the more views the more sales.

Subscribers – because the more subscribers the more views.

Of course I’ll be using a spreadsheet to track this and also look at the leading indicators (the actions that make them happen).

That’s it. I’ll be focusing on these two for at least three months, maybe more. My coaching clients would think this looks familiar because I tell them to grow their list, make more offers and check their views very, very often!

I have a spreadsheet that tracks the “lead indicators” and “lag indicators”. The “lag” are the results – for example in my case the salespage views. The “lead” are the actions you take to get results – for example in this case it could be writing blog posts just like this one that have an ad in them for my templates!

Tracking your lead and lag indicators keep you focused on the actions that lead to the results and that’s a powerful way to run your business.

Keep Accountable

I’ve thrown a lot at you!

The truth is business IS a lot. It’s not easy. It’s not free money. And it sure as heck is not set it and forget it.

So to get things done I find it absolutely ESSENTIAL to have accountability. I have quite a few options for accountability help because in my opinion it is imperative!

Now there may be a rare few people who just do the work because the work needs doing.

For the rest of us it’s REALLY helpful to have someone checking in on us.

I’ve also created an Accountability Planner that you can use along with an accountability coach, partner or the group challenge – just to seal the deal!

Where to Start Planning Your Year

If everything above looks and feels like too much to try to do at once, that’s because it probably is!

The business systems I’ve listed above have taken me YEARS (in some cases move than 20) to put together and get used to using.

The good news is you don’t have to feel overwhelmed or like you need to create them all yourself. Pick the one thing that you need the most and start there.

I’ve created a challenge that you can use to jump right in and do all these steps! Do the thing you need first, then move to the next without having to create your own spreadsheets and planners. I’ve got you covered! See the details below:

Start out the year, quarter or month with the right data, systems and determination to grow your business! This challenge, template package and training will give you the jump-start you need to take immediate action.

If you want a run down of the tasks you’ll be assigned, here they are:

Declare 2026 as your year, publicly, in the FB group.

Complete your life wheel (visual or on paper).

Review your year with the 2026 audit workbook.

Set your income goal and work backwards to know exactly what you need to do / have to achieve it.

Decide on your offer suite and products to release in 2026.

Create your 2026 promotional calendar – 3 months minimum.

Us work from home people need to be careful we don’t stay home too much. With no reason or need to leave home for long we can get into the habit of just staying there.

A few years ago I wrote this blog post on getting out more often for Eventbrite. I thought I’d revive it now and share my own bucket list of business and personal things I plan on making happen this year (warning this list might grow and grow because it’s been too much fun thinking on great experiences I want in my life).

I was immediately interested in this topic because I need more experiences in my life. I don’t tend to be a collector of things and don’t like clutter I still seem to gather a good bit of “stuff”. Also, as an entrepreneur, I have to make a VERY concentrated effort to get out more often, be more social and basically not be a hermit who never leaves the house. You feel me?

So… I’m definitely making a pledge to get out more often this year and make more contact with the human world, not just the digital one ;).

Here are some of the ideas I came up with. Basically this is my “bucket list of things to do in 2025” to create more experiences and to avoid more things.

Coffee With Friends

This is so simple, yet so great. I love meeting up with my local friends for a chat and a coffee, or a walk through the mall. I intend to make it a point to find a friend to connect with at least once a month.

As I write this I literally have a coffee date planned with a friend tomorrow, so I must be ahead of the game!

Go to the Beach

We have a BEAUTIFUL local park that includes a beach, splash pad, full playground area and even an outdoor gym. It’s a really cool place and less than 10 minutes or so from there. As soon as the weather warms up this is a family destination, for sure.

This year I am going to see if I can make a business photoshoot (at that same beach) happen. I have a friend who’s a photographer and I’m wondering if she can grab her camera to do some on-location pics for me. Not sure if I can talk her into that or not but we’ll see.

Go to the Theatre

My son and I took the train to Toronto many years ago to see Phantom of the Opera. It was a really awesome thing to do with my teen son, who I really it’s not easy to find things to do together that we’d both like.

So… he’s all grown and left home now but I’m thinking a trip with both my kids to a production they’ll both like would be an awesome family outing.

Go to the Spa

There’s a beauty spa here in town that I haven’t even been to yet. This is the year… I’m thinking someone needs to gift me this for my birthday in January!

A friend of mine was talking about planning a spa day in Toronto, and I REALLY like that idea, too! I said “oh sure” when she mentioned it but we never set a date. After this blog post, I’m on it.

Girl time. Me time. Relaxing time.

Go to a Conference

I’ve been to a good few conferences over the years but since my little one was born they have been VERY few and far between. Matter of fact the last one I went to was almost 10 years ago! FAR too long!

It’s high time to change that. I LOVE business conferences and connecting with new people in that way. I met my friend Jen sitting in a presentation and chatting in between speakers and now we live 10 minutes away and meet regularly for coffee. Plus we’ve promoted and hired each other, too!

Attend Local Networking

Since the pandemic I haven’t been out to much locally at all and I really want to change that! It’s high time to connect with other, local business owners.

Go to the Movies

Movies are a great way to get out. We recently saw Moana 2 and loved it.

Go to Festivals

Festivals can definitely be a fun, affordable way to get out. There’s no time like NOW to start going to Google and Facebook and maybe, Eventbrite(?) to see what festivals are on the go.

Take a Vacation

When I wrote this back in 2017 we had a goal to take our daughter to Walt Disney World. We achieved that last year (2023), went again this year and are going back AGAIN next year, with friends! Goal accomplished!

I’m also a Disney specializing travel agent. I also book cruises, too. So travel is on the list for 2025 for sure!

Have a Backyard Party

Ok so weird and random: I have this pineapple tool that cuts the pineapple out in rings, leaving a full pineapple shell you could drink out of. Every time I use it Matt says we should have a party and use the hollowed out pineapples as drink cups. I agree. It’s the little things, lol.

This summer right before school our daughter threw a “pool party” for her friends. We rented a blow up slide, had a nice size blow up pool and a slip and slide and the girls had a blast.

So… this year we WILL have a backyard BBQ and we WILL be drinking out of cups made from real pineapples. Sounds fun, right?

Winter Festivities

There are so many great things, paid and free, you can do in the winter. Many places have free ice skating (I think?). Or you could drive around to look at the Christmas lights – some towns have amazing displays.

Another idea I heard was go to the small towns with the “hallmark” feel to them and grab a coffee or hot chocolate and pretend you’re in a hallmark movie. How fun does that sound!

I hope this inspires you to create your own bucket list of experiences to create this year. Winter is here, spring will arrive soon and there are things you can get out and do ALL YEAR LONG!

Who needs a quarterly plan in business?
If you’re anything like I used to be you might think you don’t.

I thought I could fly by the seat of my pants. Wing it. Go with the flow.

And I did for many years. But I was just being reactive and I missed SO MANY opportunities to grow my business, scale my business, improve and be more efficient and more.

These days a quarterly plan is essential for me and I think you’ll find it could be for you as well!

Creating Your Quarterly Plan

There are so many ways to create a quarterly plan.

Write it on a napkin? … sure
Put it in a printed planner?… if you like
Put it on a spreadsheet?… one way to do it

So how do you choose?

I suggest you start with a way that feels most natural and fun to you!

When I got started I saw people doing full year plans on big dry-erase boards but I didn’t want one of those. Instead I printed out Google Calendars and I used sticky notes to plan out all my promotions for the year.

It worked great but then when my daughter was young she loved to find them and play with them so I went digital:

I used that Miro system for many years. I teach how it works in my class Finish Strong.

These days I use a spreadsheet in Google Sheets in order to see my entire plan for the whole quarter in one view. It looks like this:

That’s the rest of my year planned out with products I’ll promote, coupon codes for the products and the dates on which I’ll promote them.

I love that I can see everything in one view.

Here’s how I created this:

The Steps to Creating a Quarterly Plan

Step 1: Decide how many offers you will make this quarter.
Step 2: List out all the offers you will make (product names).
Step 3: Fill in your promotional calendar with the products.
Step 4: Set up any coupons necessary for sales.
Step 5: Batch your email content promotions.
Step 6: Add other income generating tasks to your promotions.

When done well your email marketing will be your number one income generator so that becomes the number one priority.

After email you can add items like:

Affiliate team promotion

Improving sales messaging

Creating pop-ups to coincide with the sale

Creating content to promote your offers

Promote offers in your community

Doing your quarterly planning like this can change the entire trajectory of your business, especially if you’re used to doing everything on the fly.

Now you have reaction time of more than a split second. You can improve your promotions. You can adapt to hot offers and trends. You can create a more comprehensive promotional campaign.

It’s a big win for your business progress!

Quarterly Planning Template, Free!

I’ve created a simple Quarterly Planning Template that you can copy and move into your own Google Sheets. Get it here < Click to make a copy in Google Sheets

That template is actually free. There’s no opt-in required so you’re not paying with money OR your attention.

If you do want to learn more from me and how I run my business I invite you to join my email list here.

Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan

Creating the plan is just step 1!

Next you will need to work your plan.

I think it’s very acceptable to allow your plan to be adaptable. This way you can move with trends, unexpected life events or the needs of your community.

You’re going to need determination, grit, vision and discipline. You can do this!
