Hello from Angela Wills!
I’ve tried ALL the methods to organize my thoughts and business.
Spreadsheets (boring), Trello (too linear), Pen & Paper (which I just lose) and more.
Nothing made SENSE to me.
Mind maps just get me.
And when it comes to using mindmaps to create courses I finally have a way to both VISUALIZE the big picture while breaking it into small, actionable steps that work. GAME CHANGER!
Here’s an example of a simple mind map:

Reasons to Use Mind Maps
- Brainstorming & Idea Generation flow quickly and easily with a mind map.
- Using mind maps helps improve your memory and retention for learning.
- Organize information and ideas more quickly.
- Improve problem solving.
- Store information you need later.
- Prompts creativity without restriction on “linear thinking”.
- MAJOR time management and productivity hack!

What You Can Do With Mind Maps + Examples:
Mind maps are meant to help you organize your thoughts, sort them, remember them and USE them!
First off – for courses: You can brainstorm your course idea, name and then create an outline. From there you can literally plan out every detail of every lesson. THEN you can start to sort and move around your ideas! No more writing in a Google Doc then trying to make sense of it!
Course. Makes. Sense! BAM.
What mind maps can ALSO be used for:
- Brainstorming – Dump all your ideas and thoughts. Come back later to organize them.
- Product Outlines – Divide up into modules or lessons, think out your sections.
- Planning – Plan our your pages and content with a mind map. Plan your meals and menus.
- Organizing – Put all your plans or ideas into a mind map and then use it to organize them into a logical order and make sense of them.
- Consolidating Information – If you have bits and pieces all over you can put it into a map and see it all in one place.
Examples of mind maps you can create:
- Brain Dump
- Course Outline (Modules, content, links to research all in a mind map)
- Book Outline (I’ve written a book IN a mind map and found it so much easier!)
- Marketing Plans
- Site Layout
- Card Deck Creation
- Events to Participate In
- Project Release Calendar
- Content Planning
- Swipe Files
- Membership Content
- Email Planning
- Menu Planning
- Vacation Planning
- The list goes on and on!
